Prayer
National Prayer:

Our Dear Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name we come humbly before You and ask Your forgiveness for our sins and the sins of our nation.  We acknowledge that You are the Lord of lords, King of kings, the One True God.  We ask that you touch the hearts of our leaders to turn to You and do Your will.  We ask that they come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and seek to follow Your word. We ask that you give us a President who will serve You, uphold Your commandments, and love and protect Your people.  Help us to love our enemies.

We pray for the Senate, Congress, judges, and all elected officials at the Federal, State, county, and city levels.  May they hear Your voice and give You their lives in service to America -- one nation under God.  May they not follow their own political ambitions, but serve out of love for their fellow man.  Lord, help us to replace the leaders who have only selfish ambitions with God-fearing servants who respect life at all stages.  Satan, we bind you in Jesus’ Name from influencing our leaders.

Dear Lord, protect our country, especially our borders, from terrorists and those who plot evil.  We ask that You give charge to Your angels to protect us from all harm, in Jesus’ Name.  Defend Israel and we pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Jesus, we thank You for dying and shedding Your blood to cleanse us from our sins and deliver us from the evil one – Satan.  We cover this entire country with the blood of Jesus to shield us from evil.

Jesus, thank You for rising so that we may have eternal life.  Thank You for our daily bread.

Lord, strengthen us and our families to be the heroes of America today.  May we be witnesses of Your love, grace, strength, and power.

Thank You, Father.  We Love you. Thy will be done.  In Jesus’ mighty name we pray.  Amen.

These are dates when a sitting President, Governor, or Continental Congress declared a day of prayer, fasting, and repentance. More specifically in their words, humiliation, supplication, contrition.  These were prayers for guidance and direction, protection, and providential intervention.

In an address to the Salvation Army, General Douglas MacArthur noted, “History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline.   (Does this sound familiar?)  There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster”

The Bible (Leviticus, Deuteronomy) is very clear on the blessings for a nation which harkens to the voice of the LORD, as well as, the judgements for those who do not. Moreover, “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34 KJV).

Given our current state of affairs in this nation I am encouraging all who read this set aside a common day when we as a nation, corporately and severally, in humble supplication confess our sins and pray for our nation – its leaders, its people, and, yes, its enemies.

This is not another National Day of Prayer which has become so political and lukewarm God is likely spewing it out of his mouth.  Rather, I’m suggesting we pray as Daniel, Ezra, and Nehemiah did: go into an upper room (or prayer closet) pray, fast, and confess the sins of the people (ourselves included).  For “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

This is not being advocated by any political group or religious denomination, but rather is simply a grass-roots effort to turn the tide in the path this nation is following.  The census says that Christians in the US are over 100 million strong.  If 1+God is a majority imagine what all of us praying and confessing with contrite hearts can do! If the entire city of Nineveh can do it, so can we!

So what day shall we do this?  What else but November 8, 2016 Election Day.  See the first page of this website for a suggested prayer to help get you started.  Feel free to add to this as the Spirit leads.

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.

"I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor.

It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!

"When you are down to nothing.... God is up to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!  Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!

"When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, 'Jesus, could you get that for me?'"
